The national research and development (R&D) key programme titled “Solutions to heating and cooling of buildings in the Yangtze River region” aims to meet the targets of the national total energy consumption control for the carbon emission reduction and the improvement of indoor thermal environment of the region. This research will solve three key technical problems: 1) how the non-heating/non-cooling seasonal transition period can be extended through building technology system by taking into account the regional climatic characteristics and the peoples living habits? 2) how the energy system performance can be improved through technological innovation of high efficient cold and heat source equipment and systems? 3) how the indoor thermal environment can be improved through technological innovation of high performance heating/cooling terminals and distribution systems? Applying the integrated systemic approach of passive and active technologies, based on the fundamental analysis of energy demand pattern, the project focuses on the development of the technological system and applying them in demonstration buildings. A whole-year energy monitoring and measuring data will be collected to demonstrate the energy and thermal environment performance.
